Cokie Roberts

Co-Anchor of ABC's This Week with Sam Donaldson and Cokie Roberts, Syndicated Columnist, and Best-Selling Author

As one of the most visible journalists in America today, Cokie Roberts is co-anchor of the ABC News Program This Week with Sam Donaldson & Cokie Roberts and serves as ABC's Chief Congressional Analyst. In addition to her work for ABC, Roberts serves as a news analyst for National Public Radio, where she has been the congressional correspondent for more than 10 years. During that time, she has won numerous awards, including the highest honor in public radio, the Edward R. Murrow Award. She was also the first broadcast journalist to win the highly coveted Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for coverage of Congress. In her television career, Roberts was the recipient of an Emmy Award for her work on the ABCNEWS special, Who Is Ross Perot?

Roberts is the author of the national best-seller, We Are Our Mother's Daughters. The book, published in 1998, explores the diverse roles women have played throughout American history and the connections and distinctions among different generations of women.

Roberts also writes a weekly column syndicated by United Media in major newspapers around the country. Her op-ed columns have appeared in The New York Times and The Washington Post. In February 2000, Roberts and her husband, Steven V. Roberts, a professor at George Washington University, published From This Day Forward, an account of their more than 30-year marriage, as well as other marriages in American history. It immediately hit the top 10 on the New York Times best-seller list.

Prior to joining ABCNEWS in 1988, Roberts was a contributor to PBS-TV's MacNeil/Lehrer Newshour. Her coverage of the Iran/Contra affair for that program garnered her the 1987 Weintal Award.

A 1964 graduate in political science from Wellesley College, Roberts received a 1985 Distinguished Alumnae Achievement Award in recognition of "excellence and distinction in professional pursuits." She is also the recipient of 14 honorary degrees from various institutions.
