Herman Cain

Author and Business Leader

Setting a goal and achieving it is the hallmark of Herman Cain. That was what he did as the first member of his family to attend college, graduating with a B.S. degree in Mathematics from Morehouse College. Mr. Cain later went on to earn his Master's Degree in Computer Science from Purdue University.

Following employment with the Navy and Coca-Cola, Mr. Cain joined the Pillsbury Company in 1977, rising to vice president of corporate systems and services in just three years. In 1982, he relinquished the vice president position with Pillsbury in order to learn the restaurant business at its Burger King subsidiary. His run of success continued during his tenure with Burger King. After only nine months with the corporation, he was named vice president and general manager, responsible for the Philadelphia region. In less than three years, he turned the Philadelphia region into one of Burger King's best performing regions.

In 1986, he was selected by Pillsbury to assume the presidency of its declining Godfather's Pizza subsidiary. Mr. Cain succeeded in turning the company's performance around in less than eighteen months. In 1988, he successfully led a group of Godfather's Pizza senior management in purchasing the pizza chain from the Pillsbury Company.

Mr. Cain is also the author of several successful books, including Leadership is Common Sense, and Speak as a Leader.

Presently, Mr. Cain serves on several prestigious board of directors, including Nabisco, Inc., UtiliCorp United, Inc., and Whirlpool Corporation, and as the CEO of the National Restaurant Association. He has also served as a member of the Economic Growth and Tax Reform Commission established by then Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, and former Senate Majority Leader, Robert Dole.
