James Carville

Political Consultant

James Carville is America's best known and most colorful political consultant. He has managed more political campaigns than anyone in U.S. History. His track record shows a wealth of experience in winning elections for Democrats, and through his long list of electoral success, he has shown a knack for steering overlooked campaigns to unexpected landslides.

Mr. Carville served as chief strategist for the Clinton/Gore campaign in 1992, which placed a Democrat in the White House for the first time in 12 years. He was the principal political strategist for a number of distinguished Democrats, including Georgia's Zell Miller, Pennsylvania's Harris Wofford and Bob Casey, and New Jersey's Frank Lautenberg and James Florio.

After the Clinton victory, Mr. Carville began concentrating on foreign consulting and worked as a consultant to the Liberal Party of Canada and to senior members of English Prime Minister Tony Blair's staff from 1992 to 1997. He has also worked as a political adviser for former Greek Prime Minister Constantine Mitsotakis and has run campaigns for Brazilian President Frenando Enrique Cardos and Honduran Prime Minister Carlos Flores. Mr. Carville also served as a consultant for the newly elected Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Barak.

Mr. Carville, along with Stan Greenberg, a Democratic pollster, and Phillip Gould, a consultant to Tony Blair, founded the international consulting firm of Gould Greenberg Carville N.O.P. in 1997. The firm offers polling, strategy and communications advice to modernizing campaigns, institutions and companies seeking to succeed in a new era of change.

Mr. Carville is currently a consultant to the Democratic National Committee, serving as a senior political adviser to the president. In March 1996, he completed his second New York Times bestseller, We're Right, They're Wrong, A Handbook for Spirited Progressives, which is a no-nonsense guide to the "real meaning if likely consequences" of the present day Republican agenda. He has released his current book entitled, And The Horse He Rode In On.

He is married to Mary Matalin, who was the deputy campaign manager of George Bush's re-election bid in 1992. The couple wrote All's Fair: Love, War & Running for President in 1994, the best selling political memoir in American history. They have two daughters, Matalin Mary Carville and Emerson Normand Carville.

As the star of the Academy Award nominated documentary, "The War Room", chronicling his behind-the-scenes campaign strategies, and the co-founder of the Washington Chapter of the Andy Griffith Rerun Fan Club, he jogs five miles a day to keep fit, enjoys cooking, watching LSU football games, and listening to New Orleans rhythm and blues.
